My Faith
Dear Diary? Is that how these things go?? Anyway. I just had a revelation today on my faith. I was feeling a bit discouraged in my faith because i keep stuffing up in my christian walk. When you consistently stuff up, it’s hard to keep going and keep trying not to stuff up. However, i do believe with all my heart that Jesus is real and that he died for our sins. As a result, i find motivation in not giving up because my faith does not affect just me, it affects the people around me too.
Who’s going to reach out to my friends if i give up, i mean sure there might be other christian people that my friends are friends with but can i guarantee that? Don’t think so. So when i choose to not screw up and keep going, i choose to not only help my faith in Christ, but i choose to continue to be an example to the people close to me. Because of my faith in Jesus I have become a completely new person and have changed so much from how i use to be. It’s all been for the better too. I started to think in different ways and discern things differently too. In a good way.
Basically, the next time i’m about to mess up, give up or get discouraged i’ve got to remember that i’m giving up on my mates and the people around me. Not going to happen! And i pray that Jesus will help me every step of the way and be patient with me, guide me and give me new desires and bless every area of my life. Amen
My Last Blog
Hello fellow classmate Brethrens, How art thou? I thought I should take the corny road and write a some what farewell type post or a closure post for the semester and the subject. Just wanted to thank Michael Rees for your teaching and the classmates for keeping me company and making the sem a bundle of joy
You know who you are you Joy bundle makers You! This semester would have to go down as one of the best sems yet, besides the sem where I took Analytical Toolkit, that sem would have to be hard to beat. But this one’s up there for sure. I wonder what the final exam is going to be like, hope it’s not too hard. Hint hint hehehe
This sem was “uber good” in the illustrious words of a certain Perceeeeval. Hope to see you cool cats next sem, do something random one the sem break like purchasing a Java T-shirt or something! CHeyhhhh! Rockk Oonnnn Bruuuuu!!!
Business Systems and Processes Assignment
If you haven’t already noticed I tend to blog a lot about assignments and the like. That’s what Uni life tends to revolve around so i guess there’s the link we’ve all been looking for…. I just wanted to share with you guys that I have a group assignment due this friday and today being monday night, I have 4 days to finish it. Here’s the catch, haven’t even started it yet. Plus, i’m going solo because people in my class didn’t want me as a partner, dawwwwg I know. But that’s ok, i’ll just show them up when i pull that 99% Grade….. Wishful Thinking? Hope not.
Man i’m so stressed for this assignment, it’s flippin HUGE! If assignments were measured in terms of land mass, this assignment would be like 10 trillion hectares worth. FLIPPPP!!! But i’m going to try and power through this task of displeasure and when i come out I’ll be so happy i’d make the emo’s smile and laugh with my mere presence MWAHAHAhahahahah HARrrrrrgh. It’s funny how the best things in life are free, in terms of finance but dammn some of the things are HArdddd.
If you have similar experiences, feel free to share
The day i handed in the WADE assignment
Today was one hectic day, finally finished the WADE assignment and what an effort it was. Spent countless hours on it but it was soo worth it. Just looking at it and navigating its impeccable features invokes frothing from all users that cross its path. My ohhhh my as some ladies would put it! But Dammmn, i just need to tell someone. Not being boastful of course, but just expressing the relief and eye candy features of the assignment with fellow peers
Chyeh fellow peers
It was a pretty challenging assignment too, just to say the least. PHP was pretty interesting but helped to get the job done, i was considering the use of ASP, but microsoft have a habit of charging a lot for their products and i figured open source is the way of the future. So why not delve deeper into the mystical world of PHP *Walt Disney Magical Moment with music and flying starts twirling Action*. I hope you created some decent imagery there, anyway if you couldn’t already tell I am pretty excited to have finished that Assignment, If you feel the same way BLOG about it
Yahoo UI JavaScript library and JQuery
Similarly like Jquery, the Yahoo UI is a set of utilities and controls incorporating javascript and css that is used to buld rich interactive web applications. The invoked Technologies include DOM scripting, DHTML and AJAX. This is also an open source initiative. So it is free to use. It is available under a BSD License. Just to cap off on Jquery, jQuery is a lightweight JavaScript library that emphasizes interaction between JavaScript and HTML.
jQuery contains the following features:
- DOM element selections using the cross-browser open source selector engine Sizzle, a spin-off out of the jQuery project
- DOM traversal and modification (including support for CSS 1-3 and basic XPath)
- Events
- CSS manipulation
- Effects and animations
- Ajax
- Extensibility
- Utilities – such as browser version and the
eachfunction.
The first difference I notcied between the 2 technologies is that Jquery emphasises html and javascript.
When you compare the stucture of both libraries:
YUI:
YAHOO.util.Dom.setStyle(['test', 'test2'], 'opacity', 0.5);
var opacity = YAHOO.util.Dom.getStyle('test2', 'opacity');
and jQuery:
$("#test, #test2").css("opacity", 0.5);
var opacity = $("#test2").css("opacity");
They look pretty similar.
So the general flow of the script should be about the same with both libraries.
The differences I see are in simplicity and length. I personally feel like jQuery makes more sense but if you don’t mind the nuances of each I’m sure they can both fill your needs.
I just like the fact that YUI has a fully supported library, while jQ relies on 3rd party developers (might not be a bad thing, just more comfortable that way), but what gets me is that since MS is shipping with jQ might as well go with jQ
A Hectic Day
Today has been one heck of a day, stayed up till 4:30 in the morning planning for Songs to perform at this weeks end of sem night for Turbo Youth. Worked on the Advert poster as well. Then went to the 10am class, after that went to the beach with cruz, garrett, taylor and hayley.
Played some weird beach games, then got pretty sun fatigued and went home. Little did i know that i left my phone in cruz’s car. Little did i know that i had music practice with Meghan and Cruz at 6. So I took an afternoon nap at 3:15 thinking i would be up by 6 easy! Wrong!!!! I woke up at 6:55. All i could think of was the look on Meghan’s face. I mean lets face it, she couldn’t call me, i couldn’t call her. I had no PHONE!!!! She did try calling me though like 8 times, and texting me like nuts. Each text message showing signs of increasing hostility and anxiety as i didn’t reply (cos i couldnt). At this point when i realised how SCREWED i was. I immediately flopped out of Bed and made a mad dash to Bond, where i was suppose to meet Meghan like an hour ago.
I was driving like Steve Mcqueen, the whole way through copping Beeps from drivers oblivious to my despair, i prayed heaps in the car asking God to just fix this whole mess for me tonight. He pulled through so graciously! As i went to the car park i saw Meghans car parked, so i quickly dumped my car in the lot, and power walked up the walk way and there she was!
I thought she would have left for sure by now, but what a friend! and What a God to pull me through that mess. She wasn’t even upset, sort of…… I couldn’t stop appologising. But words are never enough when you screw up like that, thankfully she was understanding.
We ended up doing our music practice and things are merry now.
What a DAY!
Google App Engine
The Google App engine is designed for users who have web serving requirements. Serving of Java (JVM) and python related technologies are popular with the App Engine. A cool and convenient feature of the Google App Engine is that it supports E-Mail services. Which allows users to send Emails using google’s email service.
Other cool features of Google Apps Engine include:
Memcache
The Memcache service provides your application with a high performance in-memory key-value cache that is accessible by multiple instances of your application. Memcache is useful for data that does not need the persistence and transactional features of the datastore, such as temporary data or data copied from the datastore to the cache for high speed access.
Image Manipulation
The Image service lets your application manipulate images. With this API, you can resize, crop, rotate and flip images in JPEG and PNG formats.
In addition to these cool features, Google apps engine has a scheduled task system that you can assign certain tasks to run at a specified time.
In comparison to Ruby on rails web development, google apps engine differs in that Ruby supports more local web development where as Google supports online web development. I would prefer using the google app engine as it seems to have a lot more dynamic features than Ruby on Rails, such as scheduled tasks and email services. Google is a more comprehensive technology, as opposed to Ruby, which is more specific in that it focuses purely on the development of the code.
Ruby on Rails Development
Ruby on Rails is an open source web framework, it is an open source web application framework for the Ruby programming language. It is intended to be used with an Agile development methodology that is used by web developers for rapid development. A common feature of RUBY on Rails, like contemporary web frameworks is that it uses the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture pattern to organize application programming. Basically, this is the allocation of code or different components of code that handles different parts of a program. The MVC is formally defined as :
The Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern separates the modeling of the domain, the presentation, and the actions based on user input into three separate classes :
- Model. The model manages the behavior and data of the application domain, responds to requests for information about its state (usually from the view), and responds to instructions to change state (usually from the controller).
- View. The view manages the display of information.
- Controller. The controller interprets the mouse and keyboard inputs from the user, informing the model and/or the view to change as appropriat
Ruby on Rails features several tools intended to make commonplace development tasks easier or “out of the box” so to speak. Rails provides scaffolding that can automatically construct some of the models and views needed for a basic website. A simple ruby web server (WEBrick) and Rake build system are also included. By including these common tools with the Rails framework, a basic development environment is in effect provided with all versions of the software. Ultimately, this provides extreme ease of use.
Ruby on Rails is dependent on a web server to run, The web server Mongrel is generally preferred over WEBrick at the time of writing however other web servers such as Abyss will suffice.
Ruby on Rails is separated into various packages, such as ActiveRecord for mapping to databases. Also, a cool feature of Ruby on Rails is that apart from standard packages, developers can create plugins to extend existing packages. Allowing for flexibility.
By using the ActiveRecord module of Rails, the developer does not need to specify database column names in class definitions. Instead, Ruby on Rails can retrieve this information from the database using the class name.
Another puzzling thing about Ruby is its strict naming convention, based on what you are writing such as functions, methods, classes; you must use the appropriate case to start the statement and certain characters are not allowed for certain technologies. A list of Ruby on Rails naming conventions can be found at: http://itsignals.cascadia.com.au/?p=7
The Red Frog Dillema
Red Frogs dillema, once upon a time there was a dillema. Then i wrote about it, but for some unexplained reason it vanished from this spot. Ie. Catastrophic Error!!! I was in class, then a certain Jacqueline brought the missing post to my attention. RAHHHH!!! The bearer of bad news!!! Jokes Jacqui LOL!
So anyway the post was about how i decided not to do the Red Frogs Volunteering because I thought it would be too stressful with this semester as it is one hectic, challenging semester.But i really wanted to do it because i did it last year and really really liked it. I’m really annoyed that my previous post is GAWWWN. Rahhhhhhh. But anyway, as i said i did red frogs last year and met some real Dopin people. Which means cool people. If you need friends, do red frogs
Turbo Youth
What’s up WADEers, just wanted to talk about the student group Cruz and I are doing at Bond Uni. It’s called Turbo Youth, and what we do is basically have Q&A discussions on christian topics, or topics relating to life etc etc. We do all of this at Bond on a weekly basis, and we do it in a non pressuring environment where people can have their say and their questions discussed. For consistency with truth, we look at bible scriptures for evidence and share this and discuss this in a group.
I just think there’s a lot of stereotypes of Christianity floating around that’s making people think that we are psycho’s or something. I’m not going to try and justify our sanity, but rather encourage you to find out what we’re really all about
You’re probably thinking I grew up being a christian, but i didn’t. I grew up a catholic, but that was just a label. I didn’t go to church, or do anything catholic like. Except maybe church on Christmas. But now i go to church all the time, and i actually enjoy it
Here’s our church website http://www.elevationchurch.com.au and here is the facebook page for Turbo Youth http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=75272881791. That being said, just wanted to say don’t look at Christians for an example of Christianity, look to Jesus and to the Bible. Because Jesus and his words are truth and are consistent and are life giving. People are in consistent at times, and we all mess up at times. God Bless
